J.S. Sharpe 7.5' 2/1 5wt Featherweight Scottie

The underlying principles of innovation, product quality and service are the cornerstone of Sharpe's of Aberdeen, who can trace a history dating back to 1920 when J.S. Sharpe set up his tackle manufacturing business in John Street Aberdeen.

The company quickly established a reputation for quality and innovation in the design and manufacture of split cane rods for salmon and trout fishing, with the subsequent development of a comprehensive range of tackle, consumables and accessories.

In 1933 at the Milan exhibition Sharpe's were awarded the Diploma and Gold medal for their impregnated split cane rods which had been developed in Aberdeen.

During the Second World War the company like many other manufactures was involved in the war effort, with the manufacture of components for spitfires. After the war Sharpe's of Aberdeen returned to the production of fishing tackle and entered a period of rapid growth with its products being exhibited round the world by the Council of Industrial Design.

Sharpe's made rods for famous fly fishing personalities such as Charles Ritz, Frank Sawyer and Dermot Wilson.

Sharpe's of Aberdeen is still in business today.

Sharpe's began impregnating their bamboo rods around 1946. They used the Orvis bakelite impregnation process. Sharpe's even made blanks for Orvis. They also made blanks for HL Leonard. The Leonard Duracane rods were built on blanks made by Sharpe's. Sharpe's also has a link to rodmakers Thomas & Thomas. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Thomas & Thomas sold Sharpe's bamboo rods through their shop.

The Scottie line of rods were imported into the United States until the early 1980s. The featherweight rods were their finest offering. This 7.5' 4 ounce Featherweight rod is considered to be one of the most desireable, as well as fishable rods this fine company ever made. It features an aluminum cap and sliding band over cork spacer and handsome english twist snake guides. The ferrules are stamped and have a handsome red witness mark. It also comes with the original hardwood ferrule plug, original rod bag and replacement tube. The design of the featherweight rods gives them exceptional lifting power and little or no casting vibration, which leads to a very accurate and powerful bamboo fly rod.

This rod is a sweet 5wt that is great for fishing the streams, rivers, ponds and lakes of Colorado and Wyoming. It has a fast, pleasant action that suits itself quite well to modern styles of fly fishing. This is a wonderful rod to both collect and fish.
